staff in February 2013 as curator
of modern and contemporary art.

"Veronica is a creative thinker who brings to the museum an ideal combination of art historical knowledge, intellectual curiosity and rigor, and a network of distinguished museum and gallery professionals from around the world," said director Simone Wicha. "These strengths, combined with her passion for connecting communities and great artists working today, will engage Austin and further distinguish the Blanton and the University of Texas."
Ann Temkin, The Marie-Josée and Henry Kravis Chief Curator of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art, adds: "Veronica Roberts is a curator with great ideas and the energy and know-how to implement them. She was a much admired member of the Painting and Sculpture Department at MoMA and I know the same will be true at the Blanton."
Based in New York since 2005, Roberts has had diverse experience at several leading institutions. At the Museum of Modern Art, she curated the critically acclaimed exhibition, Lee Bontecou: All Freedom in Every Sense, and co-organized numerous installations, including Focus: Alexander Calder, as well as a gallery devoted to Mexican American modernism. At the Whitney Museum of American Art, she was special projects coordinator for the 2000 Sol LeWitt retrospective, which led to her decade-long research on the artist. More recently, Roberts guest-curated Stretching Painting for Galerie Lelong in New York and co-curated (RE)PURPOSE, the Parsons Fine Arts M.F.A. thesis exhibition. As an adjunct curator for the Indianapolis Museum of Art, she has helped to select and oversee the commission of works by Jorge Pardo, Sonya Clark and other leading contemporary artists for an art hotel opening in downtown Indianapolis in January 2013. Her first exhibition at the Blanton will be on the artists Eva Hesse and Sol LeWitt and will be presented as part of the museum's 2014 season.
Roberts has taught and lectured widely at institutions including MoMA, Dia:Beacon, Parsons The New School for Design, and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She holds an M.A. in the history of art and architecture from the University of California at Santa Barbara and a B.A. in art history from Williams College.
Roberts joins recently hired Francesca Consagra, senior curator of prints and drawings, and European painting, and Ray Williams, director of education and academic affairs, as well as Annette DiMeo Carlozzi, now serving as Blanton curator at large, to further establish the museum nationally as a center for innovation and excellence in the arts.
